Sea front development is directly linked to provide better facilities for the community and tourist and generate better opportunities for all. This research primarily focuses on the rapidly changing morphology of the study area in relation with the physical and natural environment. Moreover, the roles of other stake holders like; Government, real-estate developers, investors etc. is analyzed in context of sea front development.

DHA (Defence Housing Society), Karachi resides at the coastal line and was initially planned by the armed forces of Pakistan in mid-1950s, however, currently both civilian and military families occupy the land. This is the area which has been under recent developments in last 10-15 years.

The methodology for research is based on data collection through field visits, observational survey, unstructured interviews and discussion. The social and physical factor and their impacts on coastal line Karachi and the future issues that may arise in the area are documented and analyzed. SWOT analysis is used to evaluate the physical and socioeconomic factors of studied area. Furthermore, in the third stage of study author suggest recommendations for the development of selected area.

The aim of this research is the documentation of the study area highlighting the current development trends and its significance in larger context of the coastal area. The urban morphology is discussed by identifying the positive and negative impacts of the recent developments. In the end the recommendations are proposed to aid for a more realistic and sustainable development of the seafront. This information will provide researchers, planners and policy makers to build up a more adaptive approach on the future of the coastal line.
