Environmental degradation, resource depletion, and economic inefficiencies are some of the significant challenges that Demolition waste management poses in the United Kingdom construction industry. There are many harmful effects for poor demolition waste management practices like air and water pollution, soil contamination, and natural resource depletion, which increase the need to address these challenges. The main aim of this research is to produce a clear knowledge of demolition waste management practices and to propose sustainable strategies for improvement. The data collected through online questionnaire survey from different industry stakeholders including contractors, waste management companies, researcher, architects, project managers, engineers and others related to the demolition waste management sector in the United Kingdom. The snowball sampling is utilsied to make the maximum reach and collected the responses from 122 experts working in the construction industry of UK. The analysis of the data is done using the Relative Importance Index (RII) method, that quantifies and ranks the stakeholder responses which helps in the identification of the critical factors affecting the demolition waste management. The analysis of the questionnaire survey has revealed that the respondents has placed the highest priority for factors like regulatory measures, research and innovation, economic incentives, and most importantly the achievement of sustainability goals in improving demolition waste management practices. Waste planning, cost-effective recycling, coordination among the different stakeholders, and overcoming social and challenges due to the shortage of skills are some of the other factors which is considered crucial for enhancing the sustainability and efficiency of demolition waste management practices in the United Kingdom. The study provides practical recommendations and strategies for industry professionals to improve the waste sorting methods on-site, identifying opportunities for recycling and reuse, optimising the logistics, and suggesting innovative technologies.
