The construction sector is Europe’s largest waste producer, and effective pre-demolition audits (PDA) are key to unlocking the reuse and recycling potential of construction and demolition waste (CDW). Despite the recent update of the EU Construction & Demolition Waste Management Protocol (2024), the audit process remains fragmented and poorly digitalised. To address this gap, we developed TISMIC, a prototype digital platform that streamlines pre-demolition audits and supports auditors, designers, and public clients in implementing circular economy principles.
By focusing on high-value recovery, keeping materials and components in their highest-quality loops rather than down-cycling, TISMIC translates the waste hierarchy into practical, data-driven decisions at the building scale while enhancing transparency and traceability across the material value chain.

The prototype workflow, developed in alignment with EU and Czech standards, was piloted on several case studies, demonstrating flexibility for projects both with and without BIM models while maintaining a consistent data structure and audit logic. The platform guides users through each audit phase, from desk study to material inventory, waste classification, and resource management recommendations, and integrates curated datasets on hazardous materials, waste codes, and circular options. It also serves as an educational tool for auditors, municipalities, and students, supporting the wider adoption of circular demolition practices.
