Transport infrastructure developed and maintained using Public-Private Partnership (PPP) models are characterised with the efficiency to renovate, operate, maintain or manage existing transport infrastructure facilities. However, in the long term, contributions from these projects are drawback to socially oriented Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs). Contribution of transport infrastructure projects to the attainment of UN SDGs have not yet been fully explored. This paper aims to examine the sustainability practices of transport infrastructure PPP projects through survey of literature.
The study examines previous literature to prioritise PPP related UN SDGs by quantitatively meta-analysing selected studies.
The results revealed seven (7) UN SDGs that are highly realised by transport infrastructure projects; these are Climate Action (Goal 13), Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure (Goal 9), Responsible Consumption and Production (Goal 12), Sustainable Cities and Communities (Goal 11), Clean Water and Sanitation (Goal 6), Decent Work and Economic Growth (Goal 8), and Partnerships for Goals (Goal 17). It is evident that the transport infrastructure facilities have prioritised climate action, creating sustainable cities and communities, creating decent work and economic growth and finally promoting partnerships for goals.
Hence it is hoped that interested parties of transport PPP projects would be informed on these significant goals to employ in implementing future projects whereas they strive to attain others that are not realised by transport infrastructure projects.
